A d F o n t e s

(Latin: "to the sources")

We’re Back.

After an 8-or-so month hiatus, I’m back blogging. This is a new iteration of my former “midrash-le” blog. Look forward to, yet again, a somewhat irregular schedule of blogging.

Yours,
JD

  2. JD back in effect? How has the thesis writing been going?

  3. Finito! I’ll actually be attempting to publish it in 2 separate articles before long–the first on whether there were Jewish courts in the Roman province of Arabia in the 2nd c. CE; the second a refutation of an argument proposing a rabbinic background for the Babatha archive. Just started a PhD pgm–in classical studies though, not Jewish studies.

So yeah, back in the blogosphere. Have no idea what I’ll write about. Your post about Thomas Oden is one possibility. Given what you posted, I really don’t think he understands modern Judaism.

  4. Nah, he doesn’t.

It’s a group blog, and i’m just one of the contributors.

Peter, who also posts there, is quite familiar with different forms of modern judaism, as his recent comments in that thread evince.

  5. So now at Columbia instead of JTS? Let us know when you publish them, as I’d like to take a look when you do.

  6. Yep, just finished at JTS. It was a very good experience, and therefore I’m very glad to be at Columbia (it’s literally a few blocks away, and I already live closer to Columbia, which is literally a block from my apt).

If you’re really that interested in the articles, I could send you a draft. (it’ll be modified before I send it out, so I don’t feel bad about it). The only catch is no distributing it. Fair warning: it’s pretty obscure stuff for which I should probably add more introductory material.
